Steve Maxwell hefur notað ketilbjöllur í vel yfir 10 ár til að þjálfa sjálfan sig og aðra. Hann byrjaði með heimasmíðuðum ketilbjöllum og hefur síðan unnið með, þjálfað og lært af þeim fremstu í faginu. Hann tók stóran þátt í að móta RKC æfingakerfið sem fyrsti yfirleiðbeinandi þar og hefur alla tíð fylgst með og kynnt sér nákvæmlega þau æfingakerfi og aðferðir sem finnast í ketilbjölluheiminum. Steve Maxwell þykir einn af fremstu kennaraþjálfurum í heimi í þessum geira og það er okkur mikil ánægja og heiður að fá hann hingað til lands í júní 2010.
Þetta verður í fjórða skipti sem Steve Maxwell kemur til Íslands til að halda námskeið með okkur. Hann mun helgina 12-13. júní halda með okkur MaxBells Level I ketilbjölluréttindanámskeið sambærilegt við það við héldum í september 2009 og ágúst 2008. Síðast fylltist hratt á námskeiðið og mun komust að en vildu og við eigum von á að það gerist líka í ár, en aðeins 25 sæti eru í boði. Þeir sem hafa tekið þátt í MaxBells Level I réttindanámskeiðinu og staðist þær kröfur sem gerðar hafa verið eiga þess kost að taka þátt í MaxBells, Level II ketilbjöllunámskeiðinu sem verður haldið miðvikudaginn 9. júní. Rúmlega helmingur þeirra sem tók þátt í MaxBells Level 1 í ágúst 2008 voru með á MaxBells Level II í september 2009.
Þriðja námskeiðið sem við höldum með Steve Maxwell í júní er Bodyweight réttindanámskeið, en síðast fylltist hratt á sambærilegt námskeið og við settum upp aukanámskeið. Það verður ekki gert í júní næstkomandi þar sem dagskrá Steve Maxwell verður þétt í sumar. Hann byrjar Evróputúr sinn hjá okkur og fer síðan til Þýskalands, Austuríkis, Ítalíu, Englands, Írlands og fleiri Evrópulanda. Bodyweightnámskeiðið er mjög gagnlegt námskeið þar sem farið er yfir mikilvæg grunnatriði í æfingum með eigin líkamsþyngd. Höfuðáhersla er lögð á að gera æfingar sem styrkja allan líkamann og gera þær rétt til að koma í veg fyrir meiðsl og gefa hámarksárangur.
Fjórða námskeiðið er síðan Joint Mobility réttindanámskeið, en Steve hefur í mörg ár notað það kerfi til að halda sér ungum og ferskum og smyrja og liðka sína liði og annarra. Hann notar Joint Mobility yfirleitt í byrjun námskeiða til að gera þátttakendur klára í erfiðar æfingar svo þeir sem hafa komið á námskeið hjá kappanum gera sér grein fyrir því hvað JM námskeiðið mun ganga út á. Eins og í hinum námskeiðunum verður fókusinn í þessu námskeiði á að kenna þátttakendum að kenna öðrum, farið verður djúpt í tæknina á bak við æfingarnar og hvaða hlutverki þær gegna og að sjálfsögðu verður lög áhersla á að þátttakendur geti framkvæmt æfingarnar vel og rétt sjálfir.

Body Weight Trainer's Certification
Steve Maxwell's Bodyweight Certification is based on the principles of proper bio-mechanical alignment and technique for all the major pushing, pulling, squatting and low back/core exercises used in bodyweight exercise as resistance.
This is a teaching and coaching course, in that there are no performance requirements outside of demonstrating a knowledge of proper technique. The primary concern is teaching candidates progressive loading using bodyweight as the load.
Each exercise has many modifications, so that even the person with low strength-to-weight ration and the de-conditioned can greatly benefit. Particular emphasis is placed on: wrist, elbow, shoulders and knees, the main problem areas for people using bodyweight exercises. Some subjects covered in the bodyweight trainer's certification:

What is Joint Mobility?
Joint Mobility is the capacity to move, with ease and effortlessness, the limbs and body as a whole through their complete range of motion (ROM.)
This capacity typically diminishes as we age and often we see the elderly--and even middle aged--unable to move easily.
The causes for loss of ROM are varied and include sedentary lifestyle, especially a propensity to sitting in chairs, to which the body will readily adapt, and which proportionately decreases the body's ability to move through the full range, after which, the ability to locomote is affected.
Injuries can impair ROM, as anyone who's suffered an injury well knows, but overuse and over-development from athletic activities can also create muscular imbalance and muscle tension leading to impaired joint mobility and a corresponding loss of ROM. Athletes are frequently surprised to discover they are lacking--and unable achieve--full ROM.
Mobility Training Differs from Stretching
Stretching is typically equated with flexibility and people think that because they stretch, they are doing mobility work, but this is not true. Stretching, and its accordant increase in joint flexibility, doesn't necessarily result in improved movement patterns because stretching is a static activity. Over stretching can even lead to weakening and deformation of the joint tissues, resulting in a higher propensity for injury. Steve has found that the greater the difference between static flexibility and mobility is the percent chance of incurring an injury. Of the two, flexibility and mobility, for active sport, mobility is far more important than flexibility as too much flexible is a liability, compromising joint stability and tissue integrity in the extreme ranges. For practical use, any increase in flexibility must be accompanied by increased mobility.
In fact, it is well documented that stretching does little to prevent injury. For maintaining (and increasing) voluntary strength throughout the ROM, each joint must be articulated voluntarily through its natural movement pattern. A joint unable to fulfill its inherent movement pattern is considered compromised and the other joints and body parts must work harder to absorb the load. For example, compromised feet and ankle joints frequently result in knee problems, while compromised knees, in turn, often result in hip, low back, and even shoulder problems. Because the body is encased in sheets of connective tissue (called fascia) all the articulations are interconnected. What affects thus one affects many, in a cascade-like effect. Neck and shoulder problems can literally can be caused by immobility issues within the feet.
By consistently working the Maxwell Mobility System of exercises ROM can be restored to compromised joints, with an ensuing improvement in overall movement patterns, in turn leading to decreased injury and a measurable increase in ease of of movement.
Steve Maxwell has studied a multitude of mobility and exercise systems throughout his four decades as a professional fitness trainer and coach. He's taken the best of these systems and synthesized them, creating something original and effective. Steve's progressions have been put to good use by professional and amateur athletes, as well as the general public.
